For the penultimate round of the 2025 season, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will once again be heading to Lake Placid Olympic Region, New York, USA. The upstate New York location made its WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series debut in 2024 when the Endurance athletes took to a brand-new cross-country course built into the hills of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics venue. For 2025, Gravity will also be joining the party between October 3-5 with the stars of downhill sampling another new addition to the UCI Downhill World Cup circuit.
Where is it?
The Lake Placid Olympic Region is in the upper reaches of New York state, 285 miles north of downtown Manhattan and close to the Canadian border. Although famous for its winter sports and the setting for two Winter Olympics, the area’s summer offering is growing and is centred around the off-road trails of Mt Van Hoevenberg.
What are the courses like?
The Cross-country course was freshly built for the 2024 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series and pitted riders against a stern test packed full of features like rock gardens, a dual slalom course and a section designed to mimic the venue’s Olympic bobsled run. For 2025, local managers and trail builders will be turning their attention to crafting a downhill course worthy of the world’s best riders. And if their Cross-country creation was anything to go by, athletes and fans are in for a treat.
2024 UCI Cross-country World Cup was dominated by Specialized Factory Racing riders, who made it a clean sweep for the American manufacturer at its home event. Victor Koretzky (Specialized Factory Racing) did the XCO-XCC double in the men’s, while Sina Frei (Specialized Factory Racing) and Laura Stigger (Specialized Factory Racing) won a sprint finish each in some fast and frenetic Short Track and Olympic distance races.
Although Lake Placid Olympic Region hasn’t hosted downhill before, Oisin O’Callaghan (YT Mob) and Marine Cabirou (Scott Downhill Factory) won the last time the Gravity format competed in the US at Snowshoe, West Virginia in 2023.
Beyond the racing, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid Olympic Region, will offer a vibrant atmosphere with live music, entertainment, an expo, and fan activations at the event village. Stay tuned for more details on how to attend or volunteer, coming soon!
