For the penultimate round of the 2025 season, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will once again be heading to Lake Placid Olympic Region, New York, USA. The upstate New York location made its WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series debut in 2024 when the Endurance athletes took to a brand-new cross-country course built into the hills of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics venue. For 2025, the event will feature men’s and women’s UCI World Cup races in both endurance and gravity formats.

The Cross-country Short Track (XCC) and Cross-country Olympic (XCO) events head back to Mt Van. Hoevenberg, while the Downhill (DHI) competition will be held at the iconic Whiteface Mountain, in the majestic Adirondack Mountains. Combining stunning scenery with high-octane riding, Whiteface has all the makings of a truly unforgettable UCI World Cup venue.

Where is it? 

The Lake Placid Olympic Region is in the upper reaches of New York state, 285 miles north of downtown Manhattan and close to the Canadian border. Although famous for its winter sports and the setting for two Winter Olympics, the areas summer offering is growing and is centred around the off-road trails of Mt Van Hoevenberg and Whiteface Mountain. 

What are the courses like? 

The Cross-country course was freshly built for the 2024 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series and pitted riders against a stern test packed full of features like rock gardens, a dual slalom course and a section designed to mimic the venues Olympic bobsled run.

For 2025, local managers and trail builders will be turning their attention to crafting a downhill course worthy of the worlds best riders. And if their Cross-country creation was anything to go by, athletes and fans are in for a treat. Traversing roughly two kilometers of steep, technical terrain designed for high-speed descents that require both precision and fearless determination, Whiteface Mountain is sure to provide a thrilling weekend of racing!

2024 UCI Cross-country World Cup was dominated by Specialized Factory Racing riders, who made it a clean sweep for the American manufacturer at its home event. Victor Koretzky (Specialized Factory Racing) did the XCO-XCC double in the mens, while Sina Frei (Specialized Factory Racing) and Laura Stigger (Specialized Factory Racing) won a sprint finish each in some fast and frenetic Short Track and Olympic distance races.  

Although Lake Placid Olympic Region hasnt hosted downhill before, Oisin OCallaghan (YT Mob) and Marine Cabirou (Scott Downhill Factory) won the last time the Gravity format competed in the US at Snowshoe, West Virginia in 2023. 

 

Beyond the racing, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid Olympic Region, will offer a vibrant atmosphere with live music, entertainment, an expo, and fan activations at the event village. Stay tuned for more details on how to attend or volunteer, coming soon!
